    Applications are invited from eligible Nigerians for commission into the Nigerian Army (NA) as Short Service Combatant (SSC) Commission officers.

    The SSC application is open to both civilians and serving military personnel. Only serving military personnel sponsored to civil institutions by any of the Services of the Armed Forces shall be considered.

    On completion of training and commissioned as officers, the SSC Commission officers would serve in the Combat Arms (Infantry and Armour Corps) and Combat Support Arms (Artillery, Engineers, Signals and Intelligence Corps) of the Nigerian Army.

    Requirements

    All applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

    • Be a Nigerian citizen by birth as defined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.
    • Be a male or female between the ages of 23 and 27 by January 2025.
    • Be medically, mentally, and physically fit according to Nigerian Army Standards.
    • Be recommended and attested to his/her good character by at least 2 recognizable referees who are either a Local Government Chairman/Secretary or an officer of the Armed Forces not below the rank of a Lieutenant Colonel and equivalent/Assistant Commissioner of Police who must hail from the applicant’s state of origin.
    • Passport photographs of referees must be affixed to the letter of attestation.
    • Candidates must submit a Letter of Attestation from their former institutions.
    • Measure in height at least 1.68m (for male) and 1.65m (for female).
    • Must not have been convicted by any court of law. Military personnel must not have any disciplinary case and must be endorsed by the Commanding Officer/Commander.
    • Possess at least a first degree with not less than Second Class Lower Division or HND of not less than Lower Credit in the arts, sciences, or humanities from an accredited institution of learning. Courses of study must also be accredited at the time of study.
    • Possess a valid birth certificate endorsed by the National Population Commission, Hospital, or Local Government Council or a valid age declaration.
    • Possess a valid certificate of state of origin.
    • Applicants (other than serving members of the Armed Forces) must possess NYSC discharge certificate or a valid certificate of exemption.
    • Only Post-secondary academic credentials obtained from Year 2014 to date will be considered.
    • Applicants must present valid contact addresses and telephone numbers of parent/guardians and Next of Kin.
    • Candidates must not have any body inscriptions or tattoos.
    • Candidates must tender all original copies of educational certificates (primary to post-secondary).
    • Service personnel must present valid military identity cards and letters of recommendations by their Commanding officers/Commanders.
    • They must also present valid letter(s) of official sponsorship in tertiary academic institutions. Additionally, they must have served for a minimum period of 5 years in the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

    All Service personnel applicants are under obligation to declare their Service status on application as required by Harmonised Terms and Conditions of Service for the Armed Forces of Nigeria. Failing to do so constitutes an offence in addition to disqualification at any stage.

    • Candidates must not be members of any cult/secret society/fraternity.
    • Candidates must not have been dismissed or withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from any military or para-military training institutions.

    SSC Description 

    SSC will be granted for 15 years. Ten years will be on the active list (Initial bonding period) renewable thereafter for a period not more than 5 years.

    No extension shall be granted after the fifteenth year of commission except on conversion to regular combatant commission where applicable.

    • Officer cadets who successfully complete the military training shall be granted the rank of second lieutenant with seniority effective date of commencement of cadet training.
    • SSC officers shall have the privilege to convert to Regular Combatant Commission, however, it is not automatic. It is based on the availability of vacancy and other criteria that are or will be in force from time to time.
    • All graduating officer cadets must sign an acceptance of the terms and conditions governing the SSC Commission before they are granted commission into the Nigerian Army.
    • The reckonable period of service for civilians who become commissioned officers will be based on the date of commencement of cadet training while that of military personnel applicants would be effective date of enlistment.

    • Print Out:Applicants must print out their online generated photo-slip on completion of their application.
    • The first page is to be signed by the Registrar of any Court of Law while the second page is to be signed by the applicants’ Local Government chairman/Secretary or any military officer of the rank of Lieutenant Colonel or equivalent and above who hails from an applicant’s state of origin.
    • Successful applicants would present their printed application forms (photo- slips, guarantors form, attestation form ete) to the Selection Board during interview.

    The Nigerian Army wishes to inform the general public that the successful candidates for Direct Short Service Commission 28/2024 Selection Board are to report for officer cadet training at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), AFAKA, Kaduna on Friday, 10 May 2024.

    Important Information

    A.) Candidates are to report to NDA Kaduna with the following:

    • Original credentials including online printout showing his/her passport photograph(s).
    • Four copies of 5 x 7 coloured photographs in suit and in full standing position without cap/hat.
    • Two pairs each of unmarked white round neck vests and navy blue shorts (without stripes).
    • Two pairs of pure white canvas/trainers (rubber type NOT acceptable).

    • Nationality: Applicants must be of Nigerian citizenship by origin or birth.
    • Age: Applicants must be between the ages of 20 and 30 years by 15 December 2024 (25 – 40 years for Medical Consultants).  Please note the following:

    •  Height: Applicants must not be less than 1.66m tall for males and not less than 1.63m tall for females.
    • Medical Fitness: Applicants must be medically, physically and psychologically fit and must meet the Nigerian Air Force medical and employment standards.
    • Local Government Area Attestation Form: Applicants’ Local Government Area Attestation Form must be signed by a military officer from the same State as the applicants and not below the rank of Wing Commander in the Nigerian Air Force or equivalent in the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Navy or a Police Officer of the rank of Assistant Commissioner and above, or Local Government Chairman/Secretary, Magistrate and Principals of Secondary Schools attended by applicants can also sign the Attestation Form.
    • The Local Government Area Attestation Form must be accompanied by the passport photograph and photocopy of the signees’ Drivers Licence or National ID Card or International Passport.  The signee is also to authenticate behind the applicants’ passport photograph.
    • Presentation of Original Credentials: Successful applicants are required to submit their original credentials for scrutiny at the Selection Board Interview Exercise. The credentials include the following:
      • Two recent passport size photographs to be stamped and countersigned by officer of appropriate rank specified in (Paragraph 6).
      • Original and photocopy of birth certificate or Declaration of Age.
      • Original and photocopy of educational/professional Certificates.
      • Original and photocopy of Indigeneship certificate from applicant’s Local Government/State of Origin.
      • Original and photocopy of Attestation to Good Character signed by Officer of appropriate rank as specified in paragraph 6.
    • Any applicant suspected to have impersonated or submitted false document(s) shall be disqualified from the Selection Exercise. Also, any false declaration detected later may lead to withdrawal from training. Such applicants will be handed over to the Nigeria Police for prosecution.
    • The Nigerian Air Force will not entertain any enquiries in respect of applicants whose applications have been rejected. Interested applicants are to note that the online registration is FREE OF CHARGE.

    registered optometrist, dispensing optician by the Optical Council of
    Nigeria and have a current practicing license.

    g. Medical Records/Health Information Management:
    BSc/HND required with current practicing license.

    h. Clinical Psychology: BSc in Clinical
    Psychology and Applied Psychology, with current practicing license.

    i. Biomedical Engineer: BSc/HND in Biomedical
    Engineering with current practicing license.

    j. Public Health Officer: BSc/HND in either
    Environmental Health or Community Health Information and Education. Must be
    fully registered with the Environmental Health Officers Registrations
    Council of Nigeria (EHORCON) and possess a current practicing license.

    k. General Nursing/Midwives: B.NSc RN and RM with
    current practicing license. Post basic qualification in any of the following
    fields will be an added advantage:

    Eligibility Criteria

    GENERAL INFORMATION TO CANDIDATES

    1. Applicant must be a Nigerian citizen by birth.

    2. Applicants are warned against giving false information or tendering fake certificates. Any false information or fake certificates discovered at any stage will lead to disqualification and subsequent prosecution of the applicant.

    3. Applicants must possess a minimum of Second Class Upper Division for holders of First degree and Upper Credit for HND holders. Computer literacy will be an added advantage in all fields.

    4. Applicants must possess certificates of full registration with their respective statutory professional bodies in Nigeria.

    5. Applicants who obtained credentials from foreign institutions should ensure the certificates are authenticated by the Federal Ministry of Education and copies of all certificates are to be submitted at chosen aptitude test centers.

    6. All applicants must present O’level West African Examination Certificate (WAEC), in addition to any other results such as NECO. Credit in Mathematics and English is compulsory.

    7. NYSC discharge certificate or letter of exemption from NYSC is a compulsory requirement for enlistment.

    8. Male applicants must not be less than 1.68 meters tall while female applicants must not be less than 1.65 meters tall.

    9. Applicants should be between 22 and 28 years of age by 25 March 2024. Except Medical Officers who should not be more than 30 years.

    10. Serving personnel, Soldier/Rating/Airman, and other paramilitary services personnel must obtain a letter of attestation duly signed by the heads of their units.

    11. Applicants will be shortlisted for a qualifying aptitude test. The date and time of the aptitude test will be communicated via the Nigerian Navy website.

    12. Applicants are to choose any of the following centers for the qualifying aptitude test:
