    What role you will play in our team

    What role you will play in our team

      RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

      • Attend to vessels at ports of call and periodically sail on them, to ascertain the technical condition, performance and repairs required.

      • Obtain and evaluate repair quotations, select repair companies and location of the repairs, based on the “best quality of works” / “cost” relation, considering ship’s itinerary and charter party obligations.
      • Attend to delivery of new acquisitions to ensure that supplies meet requested specifications.
      • Monitor the efficient and timely supply of all spares required for the proper maintenance and safe operation of the vessels.
      • Monitor the levels of ships spares in store and ensure that requisitions and made timely to prevent shortages.
      • As the Technical Superintendent, the position requires that you take the vessel for dry docking.
      • Plan and execute maintenance and repair activities for the vessel’s technical systems, including propulsion, power generation, navigation, safety equipment, etc.
      • Coordinate with shipyards, contractors, and suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective repairs and upgrades.
      • Monitor the vessel’s condition through regular inspections, audits and surveys.
      • Stay abreast of international and local regulations related to maritime safety, security, and environmental protection.
      • Ensure that the vessel complies with all applicable rules and standards set by classification societies, flag state, and port authorities.
      • Develop and manage budgets for planned and unplanned maintenance activities.
      • Optimize cost-effectiveness without compromising safety and quality.
      • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture onboard and within the technical department.
      • Implement and monitor environmental protection measures in line with industry standards and regulations.
      • Maintain effective communication with vessel crew, port authorities, and internal stakeholders.
      • Collaborate with other departments, including operations, crewing, and purchasing, to ensure seamless operations.
      • Partake in the assessment of engine room crew during recruitment.
      • Develop and implement emergency response plans for technical failures or incidents.

      JOB REQUIREMENTS

      • A graduate of Marine Engineering.
      • Must have sailed as a Chief or Second Engineer of medium range tankers.

      • In-depth knowledge of vessel operations, and international maritime regulations, flag state requirements, etc.

      • Ensures Internal Audit operates in accordance with established professional standards and stays informed of emerging trends and best practices that can be integrated into the function.
      • Coordinates the activities of external auditors, including how best to leverage the work performed and results produced from Internal Audit’s work.
      • Authorizes and coordinates investigations into suspected fraudulent practices and determines/recommends appropriate actions in response to findings.
      • Develops and implements internal audit programs for compliance with Matrix Energy’s policies and regulations and establishes audit strategies to promote transparency and accountability.
      • Assesses and communicates weaknesses in Matrix logistics business control policies while coordinating annual statutory audits with the Finance Department.
      • Conducts follow-up reviews to resolve audit issues and supervise year-end inventory and fixed asset verification.
      • Manages team performance through planning and coaching, and allocates team leads for audits across divisions/SBUs to ensure thorough coverage and effective results.

      Requirements

      QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

      • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
      • Master’s degree or professional certification e.g., Certified Internal Audit (CIA), ACA, ACCA is required
      • Minimum of Eight (8) years of progressive experience in internal audit, and fleet management in the oil and gas/logistics industry, of which at least five (5) years must have been at a strategic/ senior level.

      SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

      • In-depth understanding of internal auditing standards, responsibilities, code of ethics, and certifications.
      • Knowledge of the role of Internal Audit in corporate governance and its key relationships with the Board, Board Committees (e.g. Audit Committee) and Executive Management.

      Job Description:

      To be part of the British High Commission (BHC) team responsible for handling the transport administrative functions and requests / enquiries received daily from internal customers and stakeholders; scheduling journeys, allocating drivers and confirming bookings made in compliance with FCDO policy and post regulations.

      Roles and responsibilities:

      • Undertake any other tasks assigned by the Transport Manager or Deputy Transport Manager.
      • Provide Administrative Support to the transport management team by attending to all transport booking requests for BHC Abuja providing a courteous and efficient service for over 300 staff and visitors.
      • Manage the transport helpdesk and helpline by communicating effectively with all stakeholders; promptly acknowledge requests, plan journeys and update the transport app daily with drivers’ names and phone numbers for all confirmed bookings.
      • Prepare job rosters for a combined pool of 25 drivers using improved electronic booking systems and flexible driver shift patterns. 
      • Provide timely updates of any changes made to drivers assigned daily duties, ensure transport is available to customers at the right time and location and keep relevant parties adequately informed when operational adjustments become necessary.
      • Deliver first line support and engagement to a range of transport customers/stakeholders, responding to general enquiries and feedback (including complaints) promptly and professionally.
      • Collate and present Management Information (MI) on the Transport Section’s operations to enable timely reporting of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) on service delivery.
      • Assist in the planning and co-ordination of logistical arrangements for VIP visits and up-country journeys in conjunction with key stakeholders.
      • Manage staff overtime and annual leave within the department and provide forward planning support to the Transport Manager / Deputy Transport Manager.
      • Assist in the collection and filing of vehicle safety checklists conducted by drivers and team leaders.
      • Prepare invoices for transport related services rendered to 1HMG partners / customers.

      Qualifications and Requirements:

      • Minimum qualification – University degree (BSc certificate or Equivalent)
      • Previous work experience in an administrative and/or communications role
      • Flexible approach to problem solving with an ability to think on their feet 
      • Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills
      • Ability to work in a large team with minimal supervision at a fast pace
      • Good organisational skills – capable of working quickly and accurately
      • Proficient use of Microsoft Office tools, particularly Microsoft Excel

      Desirable qualifications, skills, and experience

      • Relevant experience in customer services.  
      • Familiar with the Nigerian transport system

      Objectives of the WHO Internship Program

      The main goals of the WHO Internship Programme are twofold:

      • Capacity Building: The program offers a framework where eligible students from diverse academic backgrounds can enhance their knowledge and skills. It fosters professional growth through exposure to WHO’s global health initiatives.
      • WHO Programme Support: WHO benefits from engaging interns who specialize in various fields. These include not only technical areas related to public health, but also administrative roles such as communications, external relations, and human resources.

      Internship Fields

      Internships at WHO span across:

      • Technical Areas: These include public health, epidemiology, research, and other fields directly related to WHO’s mission.
      • Administrative Programmes: Communication, human resources, external relations, and management are some of the administrative fields available for internships.

      Eligibility Criteria

      To qualify for the WHO Internship Programme, candidates must meet the following criteria:

      • Age: At least 20 years old at the time of application.
      • Education: Enrollment in a university program leading to a formal qualification (undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate) in public health, medical, social sciences, or a management-related field. Recent graduates may also apply within six months of completing their degree.
      • Languages: Proficiency in at least one of the working languages of the WHO office of assignment.
      • Family Relations: Candidates must not be related to any WHO staff member.
      • Nationality: Must hold a valid passport from a WHO Member State.
      • Previous Participation: Candidates who have already participated in WHO’s Internship Programme are not eligible.

      Benefits of the WHO Internship Program

      • Medical and Accident Insurance: WHO provides insurance coverage during the internship. However, interns are responsible for any coverage outside the internship period.
      • Living Allowance: Since January 2020, WHO offers a living allowance to selected interns who demonstrate financial need. Eligibility is assessed through the Declaration of Interests form.
      • Lunch Vouchers: In some duty stations, interns may receive lunch vouchers as part of their benefits.

      How to Apply

      Candidates from around the world are encouraged to apply for the WHO Global Internship Programme through the WHO Careers site. Applications are accepted only through WHO’s online recruitment system, Stellis. Internship opportunities are posted continuously, with varying requirements and deadlines.
