    Minimum Requirements

    • Graduate or post-graduate degree (Master’s or PhD) or be enrolled in a PhD programme in a “bona fide” educational institution at the time of application or recent graduate.     • Candidates should have at least two years of relevant working or research experience in one of the fields of the Organization.
    • Working knowledge of at least one FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish). Knowledge of a second FAO language will be considered an asset.

    About American Graduate Assistant Program

    The American University of Nigeria endeavors to employ more U.S. Citizens who are early in their careers to come to Yola, Adamawa State and serve the campus community through service and activities.  Those that are admitted must meet the credentials to be admitted into the graduate program (post-graduate in Nigeria) to study in the Master of Science in Communications for Social and Behavioral Change.  The academic program is in conjunctions with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and consists of 36 credits and can be completed in two years.  Those that are successfully employed will report to the Director of Sustainability who coordinates the President’s Office community service.  They will serve around campus helping with areas identified by the President, Dean of Students, Director of Campus Activities and Director of Community Service (students). 

    Terms of Agreement

    • On-campus single room in student Residence Hall (Hostel), if not possible because of space challenges, the student may have one roommate of the same gender. 
    • Two swipes to eat in the student cafeteria whenever the facility is open.
    • A stipend will be offered on a monthly basis to assist with cost of living necessities (#50,000)
    • Health service will be provided at the AUN Clinic
    • All tuition and fees covered during the time of employment in the Master of Science Program
    • For each six months of service, the American G.A. is allotted a one-way ticket and for one year, they are entitled to a roundtrip (return) ticket to the United States. 
    • Employee is on a 9-month service contract and will only work while students are at the university, meaning in the summer months’ post-graduation, and during the Christmas and New Year Holidays they are not required to be on campus. 
    • All the American G.A.s will be on a Nigerian student visa and will receive support from AUN for obtaining the necessary documents from Nigerian Immigration.  American passports are required and not covered under the program.
    • The G.A.s will work a maximum of 29 hours per week to assist with the program activities as appropriate.

    • The Postgraduate Research Internship program aims to provide talented Nigerians with opportunities to gain work experience and conduct research within SPDC.

    Position Eligibility

    • Open primarily to talented Nigerian postgraduate students currently enrolled in Nigerian universities.
    • In exceptional cases, Nigerians studying abroad may also be considered.
    • Master’s Degree students must be under 30 years of age by January 2, 2024, and Ph.D. students should be under 35 years by the same date to qualify.
    • Applicants who have previously participated in the program will not be considered.

    • Environment: Impact Assessment and Environmental Compliance Monitoring.
    • Oil Spill Response: Ground Water Remediation.
