The UNDP Inclusive Growth Internship 2026 (Job ID 33392) just opened, and applications close in just five days on April 24, 2026. With two fully remote international positions and one in-person role at the Regional Service Centre for Africa in Addis Ababa, this is one of the most exciting, high-impact UNDP internship opportunities of the year.

Whether you’re a recent graduate or a master’s student passionate about inclusive economic transformation, this could be your launchpad into global development.

About The Program

UNDP operates in 170 countries and is laser-focused on leaving no one behind. Its 2026–2029 Strategic Plan targets Prosperity for All, Effective Governance, Crisis Resilience, and a Healthy Planet — powered by digital transformation, gender equality, and sustainable finance.

The Inclusive Growth and Extractives Team (IGET) at the Regional Service Centre for Africa (RSCA) in Addis Ababa is at the heart of this mission. As an intern, you won’t be fetching coffee — you’ll be contributing to continental-level policy work that influences millions of lives across 46 sub-Saharan African countries.

You’ll work alongside experts supporting:

  • Inclusive Blue Economy transitions
  • AfCFTA-aligned regional value chains
  • Strengthened national development planning

This isn’t just an internship. It’s a front-row seat to Africa’s biggest economic transformation moments in 2026.

The Three High-Impact Thematic Areas You Could Join

The unit will assign successful candidates to one of these exciting streams after selection:

1. Blue Economy Transitions Africa’s oceans and rivers hold massive potential for jobs, trade, and climate resilience — especially for coastal nations and Small Island Developing States. As an intern you’ll:

  • Research Blue Economy value chains, informality, and trade-climate linkages
  • Help prepare high-level briefing notes and concept papers for the Africa Blue Economy Week (ABEW) 2026 Ministerial segment
  • Support stakeholder coordination with the African Union (AUC), Regional Economic Communities (RECs), and partners
  • Co-create knowledge products that shape inclusive, climate-smart Blue Economy policies

2. Development Plans National development plans are the backbone of Africa’s transformation. You’ll help operationalize the Continental Development Plans Register and the Development Plan-Use Audit Framework. Your tasks include:

  • Extracting metadata on Agenda 2063 and SDG integration
  • Drafting analytical briefs, executive orientation materials, and comparative dashboards
  • Supporting pilot applications and building knowledge repositories that make planning more effective and accountable

3. Inclusive Regional Value Chains Under the AfCFTA, Africa is building the world’s largest free trade area. Interns here will help create a Regional Value Chains Toolkit that boosts SME participation, upgrades informal enterprises, and links local producers to regional markets. You’ll conduct research on gender-responsive value chains, support stakeholder consultations, and draft technical notes on industrial development and market integration.

All roles involve team meetings, knowledge management, and real ownership — plus exposure to high-level continental processes.
