Tips for Applicants: How to Be Successful

Many candidates meet the technical requirements. Fewer clearly show business impact. Here’s how to stand out.

1. Show Business + Technology Thinking

This role is not purely IT.

Employers want someone who can translate business problems into digital solutions.

Instead of saying:

“Worked on SAP implementation.”

Say:

“Led SAP supply chain enhancement that reduced order processing time by 25%.”

Focus on outcomes, not tools.

2. Demonstrate Supply Chain Understanding

Even if you come from IT, show familiarity with:

  • Procurement workflows
  • Inventory management
  • Demand planning
  • Warehouse operations
  • End-to-end process flows

Mention real scenarios where technology improved operations.

3. Highlight Digital Transformation Experience

Hiring managers look for people who can drive change, not just maintain systems.

Include examples where you:

  • Introduced automation
  • Improved a process using data
  • Led system adoption
  • Supported organizational change

4. Prove Stakeholder Management Skills

This role is heavily relationship-driven.

Show that you can:

  • Work with senior business leaders
  • Manage conflicting priorities
  • Translate technical ideas into business language

Add examples like:

  • Facilitating workshops
  • Leading cross-functional teams
  • Managing expectations across departments

5. Quantify Everything

Numbers instantly increase credibility.

Examples:

  • “Reduced downtime by 30%”
  • “Delivered project ₦X under budget”
  • “Improved system adoption from 40% to 85%”

6. Emphasize Agile and Delivery Experience

Mention:

  • Agile ceremonies you participated in
  • Product backlog involvement
  • MVP delivery experience
  • Release coordination

Even partial Agile exposure matters.

7. Certifications Help — But Context Matters More

Certifications strengthen your profile, but employers care more about application.

Explain how you used PMP, Scrum, or Business Analysis practices in real projects.

8. Tailor Your CV for This Role

Your CV should clearly show three themes:

✅ Business Partnership
✅ Digital Platforms
✅ Transformation Delivery

If these are not obvious in the first page, recruiters may move on.

Final Advice

The strongest candidates position themselves as:

“Business-focused digital leaders who deliver measurable value through technology.”
