Objectives of the WHO Internship Program
The main goals of the WHO Internship Programme are twofold:

- Administrative Programmes: Communication, human resources, external relations, and management are some of the administrative fields available for internships.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the WHO Internship Programme, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Age: At least 20 years old at the time of application.
- Education: Enrollment in a university program leading to a formal qualification (undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate) in public health, medical, social sciences, or a management-related field. Recent graduates may also apply within six months of completing their degree.
- Languages: Proficiency in at least one of the working languages of the WHO office of assignment.
- Family Relations: Candidates must not be related to any WHO staff member.
- Nationality: Must hold a valid passport from a WHO Member State.
- Previous Participation: Candidates who have already participated in WHO’s Internship Programme are not eligible.
Benefits of the WHO Internship Program
- Medical and Accident Insurance: WHO provides insurance coverage during the internship. However, interns are responsible for any coverage outside the internship period.
- Living Allowance: Since January 2020, WHO offers a living allowance to selected interns who demonstrate financial need. Eligibility is assessed through the Declaration of Interests form.
- Lunch Vouchers: In some duty stations, interns may receive lunch vouchers as part of their benefits.
How to Apply
Candidates from around the world are encouraged to apply for the WHO Global Internship Programme through the WHO Careers site. Applications are accepted only through WHO’s online recruitment system, Stellis. Internship opportunities are posted continuously, with varying requirements and deadlines. Applicants should regularly check the WHO internship page for updates.
Application Process and Obligations
Interns must commit to working full-time for a minimum of six weeks, up to a maximum of 24 weeks. Additionally, interns must:
- Provide proof of enrollment or recent graduation.
- Disclose any potential conflicts of interest.
- Complete a WHO medical fitness certificate before starting the internship.
