About the Nigerian Army DSSC Recruitment 2026

  • The Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) allows qualified civilians and serving military personnel to join the Nigerian Army as commissioned officers in professional and technical fields.
  • Only serving military personnel sponsored to civil institutions by any arm of the Nigerian Armed Forces will be considered under that category.

General Entry Requirements for Nigerian Army DSSC 2026

All applicants must:

  • Be a Nigerian citizen by birth
  • Be 20–32 years old by 30 March 2026
    • Medical consultants: 25–40 years
  • Be medically, mentally, and physically fit according to Nigerian Army standards
  • Be of good character and recommended by two recognized referees
  • Possess a minimum of Second Class Upper degree or HND Upper Credit
  • Have a valid NYSC discharge or exemption certificate
  • Possess a valid birth certificate or age declaration
  • Present a state of origin certificate
  • Meet the minimum height requirement:
    • Male: 1.68m
    • Female: 1.65m
  • Have no criminal record
  • Have no tattoos or bodily inscriptions
  • Not belong to any cult, fraternity, or secret society
  • Present all original academic certificates (primary to tertiary)

Serving military personnel must also:

  • Have no disciplinary case
  • Be endorsed by their Commanding Officer
  • Have served for at least 5 years

Nigerian Army DSSC Conditions of Service

  • DSSC engagement is for 15 years
  • Officers who convert to Direct Regular Commission (DRC) may serve up to 35 years
  • First 3 years are probationary
  • Conversion to DRC is not automatic
  • Civilian service count starts from cadet training commencement
  • Successful officer cadets are commissioned as:
    • Lieutenant (general applicants)
    • Major (medical consultants)

Nigerian Army DSSC Corps-Specific Requirements

Nigerian Army Engineers

Eligible degrees include Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Building Technology, Estate Management, Surveying, Geology, Urban & Regional Planning.
Registration with COREN or relevant professional bodies is required.

Nigerian Army Signals

Eligible fields include Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cyber Security, Telecommunications, Network Engineering, GIS, UAV Piloting, Database Management, and related ICT disciplines.

Nigerian Army Medical Corps

Open to:

  • Medical Consultants
  • Medical Doctors
  • Nurses and Nursing Officers
  • Pharmacists
  • Allied Medical Professionals

All applicants must have full registration and current practicing licenses from their respective professional councils (MDCN, NMCN, PCN, etc.).

Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers

  • Eligible fields include Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Automotive, Biomedical, Aircraft Maintenance, Avionics, and related engineering disciplines.
  • COREN registration is required.

Nigerian Army Education Corps

Applicants must hold degrees in Mathematics, Computer Science/ICT, or Library & Information Science, with professional registration where applicable.
