  • Academic records: Include full particulars of ALL previous and current tertiary studies. Ensure that you submit copies of certified diploma/degree certificates AND official study records (transcripts). Note that academic records from student portals will not be accepted.
  • ID or passport: Attach a certified copy of your ID (South African) or passport (international) photo page.
  • Proof of competency in English: If your qualifications weren’t obtained from tertiary institutions where English is the language of instruction, you must provide proof of English Language proficiency. Method of Application

Now that you’re equipped with all the necessary information and documents, follow these steps to complete your application for the 2024 cohort of the AGCAE:

  1. Ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria before you submit an application.
  2. Download and complete either the PhD Application Form or the Master’s Application Form. These forms are essential for providing the required information.
  3. As part of your application, you will need to write a letter motivating your suitability for the scholarship (maximum length: one A4 page) and a research concept note (no maximum length) outlining the research topic you intend to pursue during your doctoral studies. Ensure these are completed on the application form in the relevant sections. Refer to the 2023 AGCAE Research Themes to guide you in selecting a research topic.
  4. Compile the supporting documents outlined earlier, including academic records, ID or passport copy, and proof of English competency.
