About Master Mind Scholarship

The Master Mind Scholarships are an initiative of the Flemish Ministry of Education and Training in Belgium. These scholarships are aimed at outstanding students from all over the world who wish to pursue a Master’s degree in Flanders, Belgium. The scholarships are awarded annually and cover a wide range of academic disciplines.

The Master Mind Scholarships provide students with an excellent opportunity to study in one of the most vibrant and dynamic regions of Europe. The Master Mind Scholarships are highly competitive, and only the best and brightest students are selected.

Scholarship Benefits

The Master Mind Scholarship comprises:

  1. Full tuition fees waiver for each academic year, equivalent to 60 ECTS.
  2. A grant of €9,600, disbursed in installments, which covers accommodation expenses, insurance costs, and a substantial portion of living expenses.
  3. Master Mind Scholarship recipients are only required to pay an administrative enrollment fee.

Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Master Mind Scholarship, applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Apply for a master’s degree program at one of the Flemish higher education institutions.
  • Have a high academic standard of performance and/or potential.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the English language with a minimum score of 7.0 on the IELTS test, a minimum total score of 94 on the TOEFL test, a C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference, or a similar result in another official language test accepted by the host institution. Online language tests such as IELTS Indicator (https://www.ieltsindicator.com/) and TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition (https://www.ets.org/s/cv/toefl/at-home/) are also accepted.
  • For students applying to a school of arts, achieve an overall band score of minimum 6.5 on the IELTS test, a minimum total score of 90 on the TOEFL test, a B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference, or a similar result in another official English language test accepted by the host institution. Online language tests such as IELTS Indicator (https://www.ieltsindicator.com/) and TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition (https://www.ets.org/s/cv/toefl/at-home/) are also accepted.
  • Be selected by only one Flemish higher education institution. If preselected by more than one institution, applicants must choose one to submit their application.
  • Have a previous degree from a higher education institution outside Flanders.
  • Not be enrolled in a Flemish higher education institution except for international students enrolled in a specific preparatory program in Spring 2023 to start a master’s program in September 2023.
  • Not be enrolled in preparatory or bridging programs, distance learning, or student mobility to partner institutions outside Flanders and Brussels during the academic year 2023-2024.
  • Obtain at least half of the study credits of the master’s program at the Flemish host institution.
  • Be accepted by a host institution to receive the scholarship.

Required Documents

The following documents are required to start your application:

  • A passport photo
  • An international passport or national ID
  • A Curriculum Vitae that includes your American GPA out of 4.0, publications, academic awards, previous scholarships, etc. You can calculate your American GPA using this link: https://www.scholaro.com/gpa-calculator/ (see annex: How to calculate your American GPA)
  • A transcript of records. If it’s written in a language other than French, Dutch, English, or German, a certified translation must be included.
  • Your English language test result or a letter of exemption provided by the host university
  • A letter of motivation written in English
  • Two signed letters of recommendation from professors of your (previous) home university, university of applied sciences (and arts) or your recent employer(s) written in English.
  • A copy of your acquired diploma(s). If it’s written in a language other than French, Dutch, English, or German a certified translation must be included.

Method of Application

To start your application, follow these steps:

1. Check if you’re eligible to apply.

2. Check if the Flemish institution you want to attend participates in the Master Mind Scholarships.

3. Submit your application to the host institution.

4. The host institution preselects eligible applications.

5. The host institution commence the application procedure for the Master Mind Scholarship by creating your application file in the Mobility-Online application tool.

6. You’ll receive an email generated by the Mobility-Online tool notifying you that you’ve been preselected for a Master Mind Scholarship.

7. Register immediately in the Mobility-Online tool and complete your application file before the deadline.

8. The host institution will then validate and submit the completed application file in the Mobility-Online tool before the deadline.
