Job Description
The job holder will be responsible for providing strategic direction, leadership, and oversight for the Haulage Business Unit, ensuring operational efficiency, profitability, safety compliance, and sustainable growth. The role will champion asset optimization, and people excellence while driving cost reduction, process improvement, and innovation across all haulage operations of the Group.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Business Growth
- Develop and execute strategic business plans to drive revenue growth, market share expansion, and
- operational excellence across all haulage activities.
- Align haulage operations with overall Group strategy and ensure measurable contributions to
- organizational goals.
- Provide data-driven insights and recommendations to the Executive Management for informed
- decision-making.
- Formulate strategies to streamline logistics operations, including frameworks to minimize
- maintenance costs and reduce asset breakdowns.
Operational Management & Efficiency
- Oversee the end-to-end operations of the Haulage Business Unit, ensuring timely, safe, and cost-effective delivery of products.
- Implement operational frameworks to optimize truck turnaround times, fleet performance, fuel
- management, and route efficiency.
- Champion automation and digital transformation initiatives to improve visibility, reduce downtime, and streamline manual processes.
- Develop, implement, and monitor preventive, corrective, and turnaround maintenance programs to uphold asset integrity and minimize equipment failures.
Financial Performance & Cost Optimization
- Develop and manage the haulage business annual budget, including forecasting, cost control, and variance analysis.
- Implement initiatives to reduce operating costs, improve margins, and increase return on assets.
- Establish robust monitoring systems to prevent fraud, pilferage, and other operational losses.
Compliance, Safety & Risk Management
- Maintain valid operational permits, licenses, and regulatory approvals for all fleet and logistics activities.
- Champion Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) culture by enforcing safety standards, policies, and continuous driver and crew training.
- Develop and execute contingency and emergency response plans for incidents such as accidents, breakdowns, and route disruptions.
People & Performance Management
- Provide strong leadership and mentorship to departmental heads, fleet managers, and other team members within the haulage unit.
- Drive a high-performance culture through effective goal setting, performance management, and
- talent development.
Policy, Process & Systems Optimization
- Review, update, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), operations manuals, and policies to enhance efficiency and compliance.
- Introduce technological tools and process automation to enhance monitoring, reporting, and operational control.
- Ensure the Haulage store and inventory are properly managed, with effective control systems to
- prevent stock-outs and losses.
Business Coordination & Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate the Group’s chartering and third-party logistics operations, including effective
- management of brokers and service partners.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including
- clients, regulatory bodies, suppliers, and community representatives.
- Represent the Haulage Business Unit in management meetings, providing performance reports,
- operational updates, and strategic recommendations.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Prepare periodic business performance reports covering operations, cost efficiency, safety metrics and profitability.
- Utilize data analytics to evaluate operational performance and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Undertake any additional assignments or projects delegated by the line manager.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Engineering, or related field; Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 10–12 years progressive experience in haulage, logistics, or fleet management, with at least 8 years in a leadership role.
Experience & Skills Requirement
- Proven track record in managing large-scale fleet operations, preferably in the oil and gas or downstream sector.
- Strong understanding of logistics automation systems, route optimization, and asset management tools.
- Excellent leadership, analytical, financial management, and decision-making skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across functions.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
