About the Job
- As a Customs Specialist, you will play a key role in managing import and export operations across the business. You will act as the central point of contact for importation activities, ensuring smooth coordination between procurement, clearing partners, and regulatory stakeholders.
- This role focuses on driving efficient customs clearance, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supporting procurement performance against Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Business Indicators (KBIs). Success requires strong collaboration, operational discipline, and a proactive mindset toward improving import processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end importation processes to ensure timely clearance and delivery
- Maintain shipment tracking systems and provide regular status updates
- Lead review sessions with clearing agents and monitor shipment progress
- Prepare and maintain all import-related reports (pre- and post-clearance)
- Analyze clearing efficiency KPIs and manage demurrage costs
- Ensure timely renewal and availability of import permits (SON, NAFDAC, NEPC, etc.)
- Manage relationships with shipping lines, terminals, agents, and regulatory bodies
- Escalate operational issues promptly and oversee reconciliation and refund processes
- Strengthen collaboration between procurement and key stakeholders
- Identify and implement process improvements in import operations
- Train internal teams on customs procedures and international trade requirements
- Support implementation of new systems and operational enhancements
- Drive automation and digitalization of import processes

Is This You?
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in import/export, procurement, or supply chain operations
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Legal, or a related field
- Master’s degree or MBA is an advantage
- Professional procurement certification (e.g., CIPS) preferred
- Strong experience using SAP or other ERP systems (Purchasing focus)
- Experience working in a cross-cultural or matrix organization is an advantage
- Fluent in English (additional regional language is a plus)
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- Results-driven with strong customer focus and ability to support team development
