About the Mandela Rhodes Foundation Scholarship
The Mandela Rhodes Foundation Scholarship offers a transformative leadership experience that has the power to change one’s life. At its core are the values of reconciliation, education, entrepreneurship, and leadership, and the understanding that true leadership starts with personal growth. Our goal is to uphold Nelson Mandela’s legacy by empowering emerging African leaders with the skills and bravery needed to create a continent where everyone has the chance to prosper. Our program consists of a series of week-long residential workshops that participants will attend during their residency period.

Scholarship Benefits
The scholarship has the following benefits and covers:
- Tuition and registration fees, as determined by the university or institution.
- A study materials allowance, as determined by the MRF.
- Accommodations and meal allowances, as determined by the MRF.
- A medical aid allowance, as determined by the MRF.
- Personal allowances, as determined by the MRF.
- Research and conference grants can be requested and made available.
- Economy-class flights are available for international scholars from their home countries to their institutions at the beginning and end of their studies.

Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
The Mandela Rhodes Scholarship is a highly competitive program intended for:
- Young leaders who possess both intelligence and integrity.
- Applicants must have a strong academic record, achieving above 70% or an upper second class.
- They must have demonstrated leadership qualities either on their campus or within their community.
- Eligible applicants must be between 19 and 29 years old at the time of applying, and as long as they are under 30 years old when they take up the scholarship, they are eligible to apply.
- The scholarship is open to citizens of any African country, regardless of their current location or educational status.
- The scholarship supports postgraduate study, including Honours and Masters degrees, in any field except for MBAs. The scholarship can be used to study at any recognized South African institution of higher education.
Method of Application
To apply for the scholarship, the online application process must be followed.
- Applicants can access the application platform and upload all required documents and essays.
- Three recommendation letters are necessary, and the individuals writing them must log onto the platform to upload the letters directly. It is recommended that applicants provide ample time for their referees to complete the letters and submit them on the platform.
Please Note: Without the recommendation letters, the application will not be deemed complete and will not be taken into consideration.
