About The Program

EU Delegation to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and ECOWAS

  • Are you a recent graduate with an interest in international relations? Do you want to understand how a diplomatic mission works and how the European Union represents its interests and values in Nigeria?
  • The EU Delegation to Nigeria is offering a funded traineeship of up to six months within its Political, Press and Information (PPI) Section, starting tentatively in July 2026.

What the Traineeship Offers

This traineeship provides hands-on experience in a diplomatic environment. You will support the PPI Section, which works closely with the Head of Delegation on political engagement and communication.

About the PPI Section

The Political, Press and Information Section plays a central role in:

  • Managing political relations between the EU, Nigeria, and ECOWAS
  • Monitoring and reporting on political and regional developments
  • Engaging with government bodies, civil society, think tanks, and media
  • Supporting EU coordination with Member States on political, migration, security, and consular matters
  • Assisting the Head of Delegation in their role as observer to ECOWAS

Key Responsibilities

As a trainee, you will:

  • Draft reports on political developments, human rights, economic trends, and regional issues
  • Assist in organizing meetings and preparing minutes
  • Support communication and public diplomacy activities
  • Contribute to the preparation of official visits from EU institutions

Applicants must:

  • Be citizens of Nigeria
  • Be currently residing in Abuja
  • Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)
  • Have less than one year of professional experience after graduation
  • Have no more than six weeks of prior experience with EU institutions

Note: Internships, volunteering, and student jobs are not counted as professional experience.
