Who Is Eligible to Apply?

The program targets global health professionals and advocates who may otherwise lack financial access to attend such a major international event. You qualify if you meet all of the following:

  • Hold nationality of and reside in a low- or middle-income country (per World Bank classification 2025–2026), or have relevant lived experience
  • Demonstrate active engagement in global health — through professional work, advocacy, or community involvement
  • Are fully fluent in English (the official conference language)
  • Are eligible to apply for a short-term Schengen visa

Note on “lived experience”: Applicants who don’t reside in an LMIC but have direct personal experience with health inequity, disease burden, or healthcare access challenges may also qualify under the “lived experience” category.

How to Apply: Step-by-Step Guide

Applications must be submitted through the official online application form on the World Health Summit website. Here’s what you’ll need to prepare:

Step 1 — Prepare your documents

You will need: your personal information (nationality and country of residence), an up-to-date curriculum vitae (CV), a motivation letter (1–2 pages), and proof of your engagement in global health — such as a letter of recommendation, work reference, or portfolio of advocacy work.

Step 2 — Write a compelling motivation letter

This is the most critical part of your application. Clearly explain how attending WHS 2026 aligns with your work in global health, what value you will bring to the summit, and how you plan to share learnings with your community afterward.

Step 3 — Submit early

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. The sooner you apply, the better your chances — spots fill quickly and the process may close before the stated deadline if capacity is reached.

Step 4 — Wait for email notification

Selected applicants will be contacted via email. If a chosen participant cannot accept, candidates from a waitlist may be considered.

Important Rules and Conditions

Before applying, it’s essential to understand the program’s terms and obligations:

  • If more qualified applications are received than stipends available, a lottery system is used — with multiple rounds if needed to ensure regional diversity
  • Stipend recipients do not attend as speakers — they participate as regular attendees in all open program formats
  • Visa costs and miscellaneous expenses are reimbursed only upon submission of original receipts (must show purpose, date, amount, currency, and taxes)
  • The WHS books the most economical direct economy class flight — rebooking fees or travel insurance are not covered
  • Hotel extras (mini bar, double occupancy, room service) are not covered
  • Recipients must contribute to WHS communication activities — written reports, social media posts, or video content — in coordination with the WHS Communications team
  • Participants must complete a post-conference evaluation survey
