Job Description
- Provide overall oversight and supervision of market risk activities within the Region and provide leadership over experienced market risk personnel towards the achievement of market risk objectives within the region
- Develop, and obtain approvals as required, for policies and guidelines for market risk measurement, management and reporting, ensuring that all such policies and guidelines are in line with the market and liquidity risk appetite for the Group
- Develop detailed documentation around all market and liquidity risk models in use to assure independent replication and validation.
- Responsible for the identification of critical issues emanating from the bank’s on and off-balance sheet liquidity and price risk exposures and regularly communicate same to key stakeholders, including, the Country Chief Risk Officer (CRO), Asset/Liability Committee (ALCO), the Management Risk Committee (MRC) and the Board of Directors as and when required
- Actively monitor price and liquidity limits and take appropriate action in cases of breaches. Ensure that robust market risk controls are maintained to prevent unauthorized exposures; also generate independent, accurate and timely market risk management information for the department, the business, and senior management.
- Work with Trading and Investment desks to support new business initiatives in line with the Board’s risk appetite and in accordance with the Bank’s and Group’s risk management policies.
- Ensure the creation and maintenance of comprehensive and updated list of approved products and counterparties for each affiliate; ensuring that trades are consummated only with approved counterparties.
- Monitor the set Limits for dealers, products and obligors, Monitor and report liquidity risks and trading credit risk positions.
- Immediately advise Line Management and, if material, the Group Market Risk Manager if case any of market risk related policies and procedures within the Region is not observed, and recommend a reduction or curtailment of business activity until they have been restored.
- Maintain and review market intelligence reports and forecast market risk factors with a view to ascertaining the impact on the Bank’s on and off-balance sheet positions.
