Imagine starting a two-year Master’s in Journalism, Media and Globalisation in one European city and finishing it in another, with your tuition completely waived and a monthly stipend covering living costs. That is exactly what the Erasmus Mundus Journalism Scholarship 2027 offers selected candidates.
The programme, officially known as the Erasmus Mundus Master’s in Journalism, Media and Globalisation (Mundus Journalism), has trained nearly 1,500 graduates since 2005. For the 2027–2029 intake, the consortium expects to award 10–15 full Erasmus Mundus scholarships. These awards cover the entire two years of study and give recipients the chance to specialise in the United Kingdom, Germany or the Netherlands after a foundational year in Denmark.
This is a competitive fully funded journalism Master’s scholarship in Europe. Admission and scholarship consideration happen through a single application. Results are typically announced by 1 March 2027, and the programme begins on 1 September 2027 in Aarhus.

What the Mundus Journalism Programme Actually Offers
Mundus Journalism is a joint Master’s degree taught entirely in English. Students complete 120 ECTS over two years. The first year is spent at Aarhus University and the Danish School of Media and Journalism in Denmark. In the second year, students move to one of four specialisation tracks at a partner university.
The tracks relevant to the UK, Germany and the Netherlands are:

- Politics and Communication at the University of Amsterdam (Netherlands)
- Crisis and Conflict at City St George’s, University of London (United Kingdom)
- Cultures and Contexts at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München / LMU Munich (Germany)
A fourth track, Authoritarianism and Transition, is available at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic.
Your choice of second-year specialisation is binding and must be made at the time of application. EU mobility rules also require that you study in at least two countries that are not your country of permanent residence. Students who already live in the UK, Germany or the Netherlands must therefore select a specialisation in a different country.
This structure makes the Mundus Journalism Programme UK Germany Netherlands one of the few truly multi-country journalism degrees available under the Erasmus Mundus banner. Graduates receive a joint degree from Aarhus University and their specialisation university.
Scholarship Benefits for the 2027–2029 Intake
Successful Erasmus Mundus scholarship recipients receive:
- A complete waiver of all tuition fees for both years of the programme
- A monthly stipend of €1,400 for up to 24 months (a total contribution of up to €33,600)
- Free health insurance and liability insurance for the full duration of the programme
The stipend is intended to help cover housing, food, travel, visas and other study-related costs. It is a contribution toward living expenses rather than a guarantee that every personal cost will be covered in every host city.
Students who are admitted but do not receive one of the 10–15 full Erasmus Mundus scholarships may still be eligible for an Erasmus+ stipend of up to €6,000 for the second year. Self-funded students pay tuition (approximately €9,000 for non-EU students in year one and €12,000 in year two, subject to confirmation on the official site).
These benefits make the Erasmus Mundus Journalism Scholarship 2027 one of the most attractive fully funded journalism Master’s scholarships in Europe for working journalists and recent graduates who want international credentials.

How to Apply: Step-by-Step Process
Applications for the 2027–2029 intake open on 1 November 2026 and close on 10 January 2027 at 13:00 Central European Time. Both programme admission and scholarship consideration are handled through the same online application.
Key steps include:
- Create or reactivate an Aarhus University (AU) account and wait for activation.

- Prepare one combined PDF Application Package (maximum 100 MB) containing, in the required order: the signed Application Form, a CV (maximum two pages), academic transcripts and certificates, proof of journalistic experience plus three work samples, language documentation (if required), and two reference letters (one academic, one professional).
- Upload the PDF package and a separate passport scan, then submit. You can edit until the deadline; only the final version is evaluated.
Year 2 specialisation choice is final once submitted. Incomplete applications are not considered.

Important timeline

- Results: by 1 March 2027

Tips to Strengthen Your Application
Because the programme receives several hundred applications each year and offers only 10–15 full scholarships, small details matter.
- Document your three months of journalistic experience clearly and accurately. Quantity and quality of published or broadcast work help.
- Choose your Year 2 specialisation carefully and explain why it fits your background and goals in the reflection questions.
- Ensure your English test scores (if required) meet the exact thresholds of your chosen university and are still valid.
- Submit well before the deadline. Technical issues near the cutoff are common.
- Tailor your CV and reflections to show both practical journalism skills and the analytical mindset the programme expects.
