Most Imperial Business School funding rewards grades, test scores, or financial need. The Dean’s Impact Scholarship is different. It looks for people who have already moved something in the real world, or who can show they are about to.
For the 2027/2028 academic year, Imperial College London is offering this award to new Master’s and MBA students at the Business School. An MSc award is listed at £25,000. MBA variants can receive up to 50% of tuition fees. UK and international applicants are both eligible.
If you are applying to Imperial and can point to a venture, a product, a sustainability result, a social project, or a leadership record with evidence behind it, this is one of the first awards to study.

What the Deans Impact Scholarship Actually Pays
Imperial publishes different values by programme type for 2027/28:
- MSc: £25,000
- Full-Time MBA (FTMBA): up to 50% of tuition fees
- Executive MBA (EMBA): up to 50% of tuition fees
- Weekend MBA (WMBA): up to 50% of tuition fees
- Global Online MBA (GMBA), September 2027 intake: up to 50% of tuition fees
That is a tuition reduction, not a cash living stipend. On the Full-Time MBA fees page, Imperial currently lists the programme fee at £78,000 for the cycle shown and notes that 2027 fees will be confirmed separately. A 50% award against a fee at that level is a large cut. MSc fees vary by course; a £25,000 award still removes a major share of the bill.
Treat the published figures as the official ceiling. Awards can be lower. Imperial also states that if you receive more than one internal award, the larger award typically replaces the smaller one rather than stacking on top.

Why This Scholarship Exists
Imperial Business School’s public line is that it wants people who drive business success and social progress. The Dean’s Impact Scholarship is the funding version of that claim.
The school says it is looking for candidates with outstanding leadership potential and a clear plan to create impact in business, society, or their sector. That impact can already be on the record. It can also be potential, if you are earlier in your career and the rest of the application is strong. Communication skill matters. A weak story with a strong CV is not enough.
The five impact areas named on the official page are:
- Entrepreneurship
- Technology and innovation
- Sustainability
- Social impact
- Leadership
You do not need all five. You need one that you can prove.

Eligibility Requirements for Imperial College London Deans Impact Scholarship 2027
Who Can Apply?
The 2027/2028 listing is short and specific.
You should apply if you:
- Are a prospective student (new entrant), not someone already on the course
- Hold Home or Overseas fee status
- Are applying to an eligible full-time Business School Master’s or MBA route listed on the scholarship page
- Can show leadership potential plus impact already made, or a credible path to impact if you are earlier in your career
- Can submit a strong all-round application
You should not rely on this award if you:
- Are already enrolled on the programme
- Cannot produce evidence of impact (or a tight, specific plan if you are early-career)
- Are looking for a living-cost grant rather than a fee reduction
There is no nationality cap on the official page. Applicants from any country can be considered if they meet programme entry rules and the impact test. That includes UK students.
Programme entry is separate. You still need to meet Imperial’s academic, English language, and (where required) GMAT/GRE or quantitative standards for the course you choose.
Eligible Programmes
The 2027/2028 scholarship page lists:
- All Master’s programmes at the Business School
- Full-Time MBA
- Executive MBA
- Weekend MBA
- Global Online MBA
Business School Master’s options that commonly appear across Imperial funding pages include finance, fintech, investment and wealth management, risk management and financial engineering, management (MiM), economics and strategy for business, strategic marketing, business analytics, climate change, management and finance, innovation and entrepreneurship, and global health management. Confirm the current course list on your programme page before you apply, because names and modes change. Start here: Imperial Business School Master’s programmes.
For MBA applicants, the school also maintains a dedicated MBA hub: Imperial Business School MBA.

How the Application Works
There is no standalone public form that you fill in before you apply to the degree. The scholarship sits on top of the programme application.
MSc applicants
- Submit a complete application for an eligible Master’s programme.
- After that application is in, Imperial invites you to submit a written assessment for scholarship consideration.
MBA applicants
- Submit a complete application for the Full-Time, Executive, Weekend, or Global Online MBA.
- After that application is in, Imperial invites you to submit a video assessment for scholarship consideration.
That two-step design is important. A late or thin programme application can close the scholarship door before you ever record the video or write the assessment.
Deadlines You Should Watch
The official 2027/2028 Dean’s Impact page does not list a single scholarship deadline. Funding follows admissions rounds.
For the Full-Time MBA September 2027 intake, Imperial has published these application rounds (times are UK time, 23:59 on the date shown):
- Round 1: apply by 22 September 2026; application and scholarship decision by 13 November 2026
- Round 2: apply by 12 January 2027; decision by 12 March 2027
- Round 3: apply by 16 March 2027; decision by 30 April 2027
- Round 4: apply by 11 May 2027; decision by 25 June 2027
Imperial says scholarship funding is allocated to strong candidates in every round, but earlier rounds usually give you more time and a better shot at limited pots. Check the live table here: Full-Time MBA admissions.
MSc programmes run their own rounds. Several Master’s pages currently flag a next deadline around 29 September 2026 for 2027 entry, with start dates often in August rather than September. Always use the deadline on your specific course page.
If the scholarship listing still shows a blank deadline field, treat the next programme round as your real date.
What “Impact” Means in Practice
Imperial is not asking for a slogan. It is asking for a result you can defend.
Use this as a working test before you write the assessment or record the video:
- Entrepreneurship: a company, product, or spin-out you founded or scaled, with users, revenue, funding, or jobs attached
- Technology and innovation: a tool, model, or process you built or led that changed how a team or market works
- Sustainability: a measurable cut in emissions, waste, or resource use, or a product that made that cut possible
- Social impact: people served, policy changed, access improved, or an organisation you built that still operates
- Leadership: a team, budget, or crisis you owned, with outcomes that would have been different without you
Early-career applicants should still be concrete. Ambition without a trail is weak. Ambition plus a small, finished project, a published prototype, a campus venture, or a community programme with numbers is stronger.
A past recipient of the award, writing on the Imperial Business School blog, described winning it for technological innovation and said the funding made the Global Online MBA possible. Read that first-person account here: Receiving the Dean’s Impact Scholarship.
How to Build a Competitive File
Scholarship readers see the same application the admissions team sees. Treat both as one case.
1. Pick one impact thesis.
One sharp story beats five vague claims. Name the area. Name the result. Name your role.
2. Put numbers next to claims.
“Led a sustainability project” is noise. “Cut packaging waste 28% across three sites in 14 months” is evidence.
3. Match Imperial, not a generic MBA essay.
Imperial sits inside a science and technology university. Technology, climate, health, and entrepreneurship stories tend to land if they are real.
4. Prepare the extra assessment as if it is the award.
MSc written pieces should be tight, specific, and free of corporate filler. MBA videos should sound like a person who can brief a board in two minutes.
5. Apply early.
Limited awards plus rolling allocation means a strong Round 1 or Round 2 file is usually safer than a brilliant Round 4 file.
6. Apply for neighbouring awards at the same time.
Imperial also lists merit and need-based Business School funding, including the Imperial Excellence Scholarship, alumni discounts, and MBA awards such as the Advisory Board Scholarship and Forté Fellowships. See Full-Time MBA fees and funding and the scholarships search.
Costs the Scholarship Does Not Cover
Plan the rest of the budget on purpose.
- Living costs in London
- Visa and NHS surcharge costs for international students
- Flights and relocation
- The confirmation deposit (the Full-Time MBA page has listed a 10% deposit that counts toward tuition)
- Any fee above the scholarship amount
UK postgraduate loans, employer sponsorship, and private student lenders are the usual extras. International applicants should also check Chevening and home-country schemes, which can sometimes sit alongside a university fee award depending on each scheme’s rules.
Imperial’s general fees and funding hub is here: Fees and funding.
Quick Checks Before You Hit Submit
- Confirm you are a new entrant for 2027/2028
- Confirm your course is listed on the 2027/28 scholarship page
- Finish the programme application first
- Complete the written (MSc) or video (MBA) assessment when invited
- Keep evidence of impact ready: metrics, links, press, cap tables, patents, or reference letters that mention results
- Email open questions to business.school@imperial.ac.uk
Bottom Line
The Dean’s Impact Scholarship is one of the clearer high-value awards at Imperial College Business School for 2027/28: £25,000 on listed MSc routes and up to half of tuition on the MBA family. It is open to Home and Overseas applicants. It is closed to students already on the course. It is not a living stipend.
The selection logic is simple and hard. Show impact. Show you can explain it. Apply through the degree first, then use the written or video assessment to make the case. If that describes you, the next useful click is the official page, then the application for the programme you actually want.
