If you run a small or medium business in Nigeria, this is one opportunity you simply cannot afford to ignore. The Federal Government of Nigeria’s National MSME Awards — now in its landmark 2026 edition — is back with bigger prizes, broader categories, and a renewed commitment to spotlighting the entrepreneurs quietly transforming the Nigerian economy.
Since its debut in August 2018, the awards have grown from a single car prize to a full-blown national celebration of MSME excellence. This year promises to be the most impactful yet. Here’s everything you need to know.
What Are the National MSME Awards?
The National MSME Awards is an annual, week-long event organized by the Federal Government of Nigeria to honour outstanding indigenous micro, small, and medium enterprises. The programme is far more than a gala dinner — it is a full ecosystem event that includes:
- Alignment with International MSME Week
- An expanded National MSME Clinic for business development
- A Business Exhibition & Plenary Session
- A prestigious Gala & Award Night
The awards began in August 2018 and have since been held annually, typically in June. The initiative represents a deepening partnership between the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) and Nigeria’s private sector — a relationship that has steadily grown in ambition and reach.
Did you know? Prize value has grown from a single car for the MSME of the Year winner in 2018 to 10 cars across all categories in 2026 — a tenfold increase that signals just how seriously the Federal Government takes MSME development.
The 2026 Award Categories
The 2026 edition features nine distinct award categories, each designed to recognise excellence in a specific sector of Nigeria’s MSME ecosystem. Find yours below:

Who Is Eligible for FG National MSME Awards 2026 — And Who Is Not?
The awards are open to any Nigerian MSME owner aged 18 or above whose business operates within one of the nine recognised categories. There is one important exception:
⚠️ Prior award winners are not eligible for consideration. If your business has previously won a National MSME Award, you cannot apply again. This rule ensures a wider pool of businesses get the recognition they deserve.
Why You Should Apply Right Now
Many eligible Nigerian business owners never apply simply because they don’t believe their business is “big enough” or “impressive enough.” That thinking is precisely what this award was designed to challenge.
The National MSME Awards was created to celebrate businesses at every stage of growth. Whether you’re running a thriving leather goods shop in Kano, a tech startup in Lagos, a farm-to-table agribusiness in Benue, or a cosmetics brand in Port Harcourt — if you’re doing remarkable work, you deserve to be recognised.
Beyond the prizes, consider what national recognition could mean for your business: new clients, investor interest, partnership opportunities, access to government programmes, and the kind of brand credibility that money alone cannot buy.
