Scholarship Overview
Each year, ANU offers the University Research Scholarship to outstanding HDR students. This scholarship is available through two annual central scholarship rounds (Round 1 and Round 2), which also include the Australian Government Research Training Program (AGRTP) and other centrally managed scholarships.
Scholarship Benefits
The University Research Scholarship offers several substantial benefits:
- Annual Stipend: $36,652, disbursed fortnightly.
- Duration: 3.5 years, with a possible extension of 6 months.

Scholarship Rounds:

- Round 2 (Both International and Domestic Applicants): Closes on April 15 each year, with commencement by August 31 the same year.
Round 1 is divided into separate deadlines for international and domestic candidates, while Round 2 is smaller and considers both types of applicants simultaneously.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the University Research Scholarship, you must:
- Be either a domestic or an international student enrolled in an accredited HDR course at ANU.
- Have achieved a minimum of Honours (H1) or its equivalent in your previous studies.
Selection Process
The selection process is rigorous and involves each ANU College forming a selection committee to evaluate and rank all eligible H1 (or equivalent) applicants. Your overall ranking will be based on:

- Research potential, including support from your prospective supervisor and the location of your research.
