Fellowship Duration and Stipend
The Harvard Radcliffe Fellowship spans from September 2025 to May 2026, providing ample time to focus on your project.
- Fellows receive a generous stipend of $78,000, along with an additional $5,000 to cover project-related expenses.
- If you’re a US citizen or permanent resident affiliated with a US institution, you can choose whether your stipend is paid through your home institution or directly to you.

General Requirements
Applicants should demonstrate exceptional achievement and possess a strong portfolio of independent work. This program is not designed for post-doctoral fellows.
Field-Specific Requirements
Humanities and Social Sciences
- Hold a doctorate or equivalent terminal degree at least two years before the fellowship start date (December 2023 for the 2025-26 fellowship year).
- Have published a monograph or at least two articles in refereed journals or edited collections.
Science, Engineering, and Mathematics
- Hold a doctorate in the proposed project area at least two years before the fellowship start date (December 2023 for the 2025-26 fellowship year).
- Have published at least five articles in refereed journals.
Creative Arts
- Film and Video: Must have a significant body of independent work exhibited in galleries, museums, film festivals, or broadcasted.
- Visual Arts: At least five years of professional work, participation in several curated group shows, and at least two solo exhibitions.
- Fiction and Nonfiction: At least one published book, a contract for a book-length manuscript, or three substantial published works.
- Poetry: At least 20 published poems or a book of poetry within the last five years and ongoing manuscript preparation.
- Journalism: Minimum of five years of professional experience.
- Playwriting: A substantial body of independent work, typically including produced plays.
- Music Composition: Strong evidence of professional achievement with recent performances, a PhD or DMA is desirable but not required.

- Project Proposal: A detailed description of your project, including a 150-word abstract and a comprehensive proposal up to 1,400 words.

- References: Contact information for three recommenders who will upload letters of recommendation.
Application Deadline
For applicants in the humanities, social sciences, and creative arts, the complete application, including recommendation letters, is due by September 12, 2024. For applicants in science, engineering, and mathematics, the deadline is October 3, 2024. Ensure all components are submitted by 11:59 PM ET on the respective dates.
