Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:
For Undergraduate Applicants
- Be no older than 26 years at the time of application.
- Meet the minimum admission requirements for UWC.
- Have applied for academic admission to UWC for the 2025 academic year.
- Be prepared to register for full-time undergraduate study in January 2025.
- Provide evidence that social and economic barriers impede your access to university studies.
For Master’s Degree Applicants
- Be no older than 30 years at the time of application.
- Meet the minimum admission requirements for UWC.
- Have applied for academic admission to UWC for the 2025 academic year.
- Be prepared to begin full-time master’s degree study in January 2025.
- Provide evidence that social and economic barriers impede your access to university studies.

Application Deadline
The deadline for all applications is Friday, 30th August 2024. If you do not get feedback about your application by Friday, 15th November 2024, please consider your application unsuccessful.
How to Apply
Step 1: Apply for Admission to UWC
First, you need to submit an academic application to study at UWC for the 2025 academic year. You can apply through the UWC website. Make sure to note the application closing dates for your chosen program or discipline.
Step 2: Apply to the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program
Once you have your UWC application number, complete the online application for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. If you encounter any issues, you can email the support team at the provided contact.

Please ensure that you submit only one complete application. Duplicate applications will be automatically disqualified.
Additional Notes
- Award Conditions: The scholarship is only for full-time studies at UWC. Scholars cannot hold another UWC scholarship or internal bursary concurrently. External partial bursaries may be complemented by the Mastercard Foundation where necessary.
- Work-Study Programs: Master’s degree scholars can participate in work-study programs for a maximum of 20 hours per month.
- Communication: The program will communicate with applicants via email and phone. Ensure your contact details are accurate and active.
Successful applicants will be invited for an interview, which may be virtual or in-person. Any false information provided during the application process will lead to disqualification, and attempts to influence the selection process will result in automatic disqualification.
