How Much Can You Actually Receive?

NTU describes the range as £2,000 up to 50% off tuition fees. The exact band depends on the strength of your application and, in some cases, your nationality or previous university.

NTU Excellence Scholarships (most competitive)

These are the flagship awards.

  • Undergraduate: 50% or 25% off first-year tuition, plus £3,000 off each subsequent year of the course.
  • Postgraduate (Masters): 50% or 25% off the first-year fee. NTU has published example bands such as a 50% award reducing the fee by roughly £9,150–£12,500, depending on the course fee.

Excellence awards are judged on the quality of the application, not on a hidden GPA cutoff published on the main page. Outstanding academics help. So do evidence of leadership, community contribution, and a clear plan for how NTU fits your career.

Standard international awards (wider pool)

Typical taught-course awards include:

  • NTU International Merit Scholarship: £3,000
  • NTU International Scholarship: £2,000
  • Undergraduate Executive Dean’s Scholarship: often listed around £5,000 for eligible Bachelor’s applicants

Country, school and high-achiever awards

These sit on top of the main scheme. One form still covers most of them. Examples published by NTU include:

  • Undergraduate examples such as a Korea Scholarship (£5,000 in year one) and a Sri Lanka Scholarship (£4,000 each taught year, excluding placement years)
  • LLM / Law awards of up to 50% for selected regions, including Vietnam, South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Sibling Loyalty Reward: 20% off first-year tuition if you and a sibling both study at NTU and share at least one parent (separate email process, not only the form)

GREAT Scholarships (£10,000)

In partnership with the British Council, NTU has offered £10,000 GREAT Scholarships for eligible postgraduate students from Egypt, Nigeria and Vietnam (some NTU materials also list Ghana). These are for full-time taught Master’s programmes. For the September 2026 cycle, eligible applications received by 27 May 2026 were automatically considered. Confirm the January 2027 arrangement when that round opens.

Who Is Eligible?

You are in the running if you meet all of the following:

  • You have an offer on an eligible full-time Bachelor’s or taught Master’s course (or an approved part-time Master’s that is not on the exclusion list).
  • You are classed as an overseas student for tuition fee purposes.
  • You will enrol on the first year of a new course (or year 2 / 3 as an advanced-entry undergraduate).
  • You are not already studying at NTU as a progressing or repeating student.
  • You are not fully sponsored by an employer, government or other funding body in a way that makes you ineligible under NTU’s terms.

You are usually not eligible if you are progressing from NTU International College under the rules NTU sets for that pathway, if you are repeating year one, or if combining awards would push the discount above the cap (normally 50% of first-year fees, with limited exceptions such as a sport scholarship or alumni discount).

How to Apply (One Form, Many Awards)

This is the part most applicants miss. You do not submit a separate form for Excellence, Merit, country awards and GREAT (where NTU is assessing you automatically). You complete one scholarship application after you have an NTU ID and an offer.

  1. Apply for your course first — NTU apply portal for most Master’s courses, or UCAS for undergraduate entry.
  2. Receive your offer and NTU ID. If you applied through UCAS and cannot find the ID, email international@ntu.ac.uk.
  3. Complete the international scholarship form when the relevant intake is open.
  4. Write a serious statement (NTU has used a roughly 500-word prompt). Explain achievements, experience, and how you will contribute to the NTU community. NTU has stated that applications should be original and not AI-generated.
  5. For some merit or high-achiever awards, upload or quote a graded transcript. For the sibling discount, email birth certificates and both NTU IDs separately.

Decisions have historically been issued within about five weeks of each deadline. Apply at the earliest deadline you can meet. An early award letter is useful for budgeting and, in some cases, for family planning around the visa timeline. It does not replace the CAS deposit.

Deadlines You Should Treat as Real

As of late August 2026:

  • January 2027 entry: NTU has stated that scholarship applications open in September 2026. Published deadlines include Wednesday 30 September 2026 and a final deadline of Saturday 31 October 2026, 16:00 GMT.
  • Sibling Loyalty for January 2027 has been listed with a later documentary deadline (check the live page).

NTU can close a round early if it has allocated the awards it intends to make. Do not wait for the final date if your offer is already in hand.

How to Write an Application That Survives the Shortlist

NTU is explicit: Excellence awards are competitive and rest on the strength of the application. Treat the statement as a short professional pitch, not a second personal statement recycled from UCAS.

  • Lead with evidence, not adjectives. Grades, rankings, internships, competitions, published work, or measurable community impact beat “I am passionate.”
  • Show you understand NTU specifically — course structure, placement year, Nottingham’s industry links, or a school’s studios and labs.
  • Explain contribution. Scholarship holders are often asked to act as ambassadors. Mention tutoring, societies, mentoring or a concrete plan to represent the university.
  • Keep the future specific. “I will work in marketing” is weak. “I will use the placement year and NTU’s digital marketing modules to move into performance roles in X market” is usable.
  • Stay inside the word limit and write it yourself. A generic, polished essay that could sit on any UK university site is easy to reject.

What the Scholarship Does Not Pay

Be precise with family budgets.

  • It is a fee discount, not a monthly stipend.
  • It is applied after enrolment, not as the pre-cas deposit.
  • Living costs in Nottingham — rent, food, transport, NHS surcharge, flights — remain yours unless you win a separate award (Sanctuary Scholarships for a very small number of eligible undergraduates; some PhD studentships; or external awards such as Chevening or Commonwealth).
  • Combining two NTU awards usually means you receive the higher amount, not both stacked above 50%.

Chevening and Commonwealth Master’s scholarships are external and fully funded or near fully funded. Apply on those programmes directly if you meet their nationality and leadership criteria. NTU can support an offer letter; it does not run those competitions.

Why NTU Still Attracts Scholarship Applicants

Scholarships only matter if the degree is worth the remaining fee. NTU is a large, professionally oriented university in a relatively affordable English city compared with London. It has a sizable international community (NTU cites thousands of international students from a very wide spread of countries) and a long run of teaching and student-experience awards in UK league tables and student-choice lists. For applicants who want applied courses — business, law, architecture, computing, design, sport, and many STEM Master’s — the combination of a mid-sized city and a large scholarship pot is the actual offer, not a slogan.

Final Advice Before You Submit

Get the offer first. Without an NTU ID, the scholarship form will not move. Then apply at the first January 2027 deadline you can realistically meet. Use the statement to prove two things only: you will succeed on the course, and you will be useful to the campus once you arrive. Everything else is decoration.

Nottingham Trent University International Scholarships will not make a UK degree free. For a large number of offer-holders they make it payable. That is the realistic win — and it is why the form is worth doing properly the first time.
